The focus of this year’s ITB Berlin was on the partner country Malaysia. After a spectacular performance which launched the show at the opening ceremony of ITB Berlin the country displayed an abundance of colour, attractions and entertainment in various halls on the other days of the show. A variety of dance ensembles which had come to Berlin from different parts of Malaysia performed culturally-themed dances in beautiful traditional costumes.
This year’s participation in ITB Berlin represented a further step by this Southeast Asian country to position itself increasingly as an attractive destination for tourists. Last year numerous joint activities were organised in partnership with airlines and tour operators, including campaigns and workshops, which resulted in substantial growth in European business. As the partner country of ITB Berlin 2019 we continued with these efforts in order to draw the world’s attention to Malaysia’s beauty and diversity. Malaysia will announce its Visit Malaysia campaign for 2020 with the goal of attracting 30 million visitors to the country.
Datuk Musa Yusof, Director General of Tourism Malaysia: “This year’s ITB was a wonderful platform and gave us an opportunity to present our colourful and diverse country that is Malaysia to the tourism industry and travellers all over the world. Our participation in ITB Berlin perfectly complemented the Visit Malaysia 2020 campaign, with the aim of showing even more travellers our country. In the past few days we had lots of talks and meetings and were able to gain an even better grasp of the market’s needs and demands. At the same time visitors were able to find out what Malaysia stands for and what we offer – a faraway holiday destination that offers good value for money, with all the modern conveniences, many hotels and resorts, a unique experience of culture, nature, cuisine and eco-tourism, and a wide range of attractions for every type of traveller. The focus is now on the 5th UNWTO World Tourism Conference at the end of August in Kuala Lumpur and on our Visit Malaysia Year 2020. We would like to thank ITB Berlin for giving us this opportunity to present ourselves to the world as the partner country of ITB Berlin, and we look forward to welcoming visitors from around the world to our beautiful country.“
