The LGBT+ community’s leading travel association presents the Vanguard Award to the World’s Leading Travel Trade Show in New York - Record participation with 660 attendees
Every year, the directors’ board of the IGLTA and the IGLTA Foundation present the IGLTA Honors. This year, the awards ceremony took place from 24 to 27 April at the Hilton Midtown New York City. The recipients at this event are individuals, companies and organisations who improve relations within the tourism community and also raise awareness of LGBT+ around the world. Rika Jean-Francois, CSR officer of ITB Berlin and responsible for this segment, accepted the coveted award on behalf of ITB Berlin. Accompanying her was Thomas Bömkes, LGBT+ consultant for ITB and managing director of Diversity Tourism GmbH.
The LGBT segment has played an important part at ITB Berlin for some time now. ITB is a strong supporter of diversity and human rights in tourism, and LGBT+ Travel has been represented at the show since the Nineties. Following very positive feedback from exhibitors and visitors both then and now, Gay & Lesbian Travel became an independent segment at ITB Berlin in 2010. Its focal point is the LGBT Travel Pavilion which boasts the world’s largest display of tourism products for the gay and lesbian travel market of any trade show in the world.
ITB Berlin’s commitment to the LGBT segment is not confined to a large exhibition area. Lectures and supporting events such as the LGBT+ Media Brunch and the ITB Convention’s LGBT+ Seminar, which hosts the annual presentation of the ITB Pioneer Awards, as well as networking events and the LGBT+ Leadership Summit attract many visitors who want to find out more about LGBT Travel.
