Over the last eight years ITB Asia in Singapore has met with great success, and now ITB Berlin is to launch a second offshoot in Asia, namely ITB China, which starting in May 2017 will be held annually in the Shanghai World Expo Exhibition and Conference Center. On Wednesday at ITB Berlin Dr. Christian Göke, CEO, Messe Berlin, and Charlie Li, founder and CEO of TravelDaily China, signed a partnership agreement to this effect. TravelDaily is the country’s largest online news portal and is also an event organiser for China’s tourism industry. At the same time agreements were signed with Alitrip, the travel brand of the Chinese internet giant Alibaba; with Ctrip, the country’s leading online travel agency; with Caissa, a major offline tour operator; and Tunio, the leading online leisure travel agency. Along with the Jinjiang hotel group and the tour operator Utour they have all pledged to send their buyers to ITB China. According to Dr. Martin Buck, division head at Messe Berlin, this is a further reason for exhibitors to attend.
Dr. Göke spoke of a new chapter in the 50-year history of ITB Berlin and Charlie Li noted that the world’s largest travel trade show would be meeting the world’s largest travel market.
