Air Astana wants to become a network carrier

Air Astana, Kazakhstan’s national carrier, will benefit from Expo 2017, to be held from 10 June to 10 September in the city of the same name. Not only have many new hotels been built for the occasion, but so has a new terminal – in a record construction time of 15 months.  This has doubled the airport's capacity to about seven million passengers annually. Astana is to be developed into a hub, says Susith Hettihewa, Regional General Manager for Europe and America. The quickest connection between Europe and the Western Chinese city of Urumqi is now a flight through Kazakhstan, and connection times to Yekaterinburg and Novosibirsk in Russia have been shortened. Air Astana offers affordable stopover programmes to show their country's attractions to transfer passengers. Outside of the Expo period, you can find accommodation and airport transfers starting from one US Dollar. The larger Boeing 767-200 operates between Frankfurt and Astana in the summer months, and the Boeing 757 will also begin operating seasonally from Hannover. At ITB Berlin 2017, Sven Gossow, country manager for the DACH region, reported that the first of 11 newly ordered Airbus A320neo aircrafts was recently acquired and that the first Boeing 787 is expected in 2019, intended for the Frankfurt route.
