The Argentinian capital is the place everyone wants to be, as reflected in steadily rising foreign visitor numbers. In response, Buenos Aires has intensified its marketing activities. Germany is one of the most important source markets.
Buenos Aires has good cause to celebrate, for at ITB Berlin 2017 it will receive the ’City of the Year’ award. Gonzalo Robredo, managing director of Buenos Aires Ciudad, the city’s tourist board, is full of pride: “We are delighted that the Pacific Area Travel Writers Association (PATWA) is giving us this award.“ For Robredo, another reason to celebrate is that “over the last three months Buenos Aires has experienced a tourist invasion from all parts of the world.“ During this period the city experienced a 13 per cent increase in visitors from abroad. “We are very much in demand“, said a delighted Gonzalo Robredo. Stepping up advertising measures, which in part have been organised with the Argentinian tourism ministry, has produced successful results in Europe and North America. Developments on the currency market have also had a positive effect.
The German market is particularly important for Buenos Aires. “Our participation in ITB Berlin will kick off our German marketing and PR activities, so to speak“, said Robredo. “famecreative lab will assist with communications.“ Since the beginning of the year the agency has been promoting tourism products on the German market. “Whether football or fashion, there is something for everyone in store“, said Karin Luize de Carvalho, managing partner of famecreativlab.
Buenos Aires will begin ITB Berlin 2017 by sponsoring the Blogger Speed Dating Event on 9 March 2017, where exhibitors at ITB Berlin will be able to meet with international bloggers officially attending the event. This is where Robredo would like to “establish valuable contacts with travel bloggers and discuss possible forms of collaboration.“ His message is clear and has received praise from many: “Buenos Aires is the place in South America for anyone in search of the perfect blend of culture, gastronomy, fashion, design, music, sport and fascinating events.“ In 2016 Trip Advisor rated the ’Queen of Silver’ one of the 25 most attractive destinations worldwide, and the most popular in South America. Many of the city’s restaurants are on the Pelegrino list of South America’s 50 best restaurants, including Germán Maritegui’s Tegui (ranked 9) and Fernando Rivarolo’s El Baqueanero (ranked 13).
