The creative side of Saxony

The state has chosen an artistic slogan for its stand at this year’s ITB Berlin.

Saxony’s 800 years of art history has many different facets. The styles encompass every epoch from Gothic to Modernism and form the centre piece of the state’s presentation at ITB Berlin this year. Using the slogan “kUNSt SACHSEN”, a wordplay incorporating “art”, “us” and “Saxony”, in 2018 the stand of Tourismus Marketing Gesellschaft Sachsen has been transformed into a veritable art gallery.

Visitors can admire numerous well known paintings by famous painters from Old Masters to the New Leipzig School. They include the „Chocolate Girl” by Jean-Etienne Liotard and a work by Neo Rauch. Artistically printed on fabric, they encircle the stand, which covers just under 1,000 square metres. There is also an exhibition of contemporary art, all originals, in the form of impressive statues, some of them three metres in height, as a setting for the information and entertainment that is being provided.

A number of artists can also be seen at work, giving this space the character of a studio. Dancers, musicians and a illustrator complete the presentation on the public days. A special catalogue has been published with the title “Kunstverführer Sachsen – Geschichte, Museen, Wirkungsstätten” (A seductive guide to the art of Saxony – history, museums, places of activity), which not only provides an overview of the museums and museum collections in Saxony, but is also a companion to the concentrated art history of Saxony. This can be obtained by any interested visitor to the fair. Decorating the trade visitors’ area is a huge picture showing the sculpture collection of the Dresden State Art Collection at the Albertinum.
