Definitive exhibition of tourism products in a unique atmosphere

It goes without saying that the DZT is a regular exhibitor at ITB Berlin. The World’s Leading Travel Trade Show and the National Tourist Board of one of Europe’s most popular travel destinations simply belong together. ITB Berlin is the definitive exhibition showcasing global tourism in our time. And in combination with the ITB Berlin Convention it acts as a barometer of future trends.

Personally, ITB Berlin 2017 is more than a ‘must’ on my calendar of events. It is a lively and pulsating marketplace. This is where we, my team from head office and the DZT representatives of 32 countries, meet partners from Germany and abroad. We present Germany’s results as a tourism destination to political decision-makers, cultivate relations with international organisations, pave the way for collaboration and exchange our experiences.

In an age of digitalisation and efficient data communications it is very important for me to be in personal contact with colleagues and business partners. The atmosphere at ITB Berlin is ideal for this.

ITB Berlin takes place every year just when the figures for the previous year have been released. For us, and for many others, it is a good opportunity to summarise past events and look towards the future. For Germany as a travel destination 2016 was a success. It produced record results for the seventh year running and for the first time there were more than 80 million overnights. It was also a year defined by numerous challenges, economic crises, difficult geopolitical developments, questions hanging over Europe’s future and the threat of terror, to name but a few. These topics will continue to occupy our attention in 2017 and will be food for thought at ITB.

I am confident that we will not only talk about problems and crises at ITB 2017, but about our industry’s strengths, opportunities and its positive energy as well.

You can meet Petra Hedorfer in Hall 12/102 and at the

press conference on 8 March 2017, 1 p.m., CityCube, A1 Level 1
