At this year’s ITB soloists from the State Operetta Dresden will be offering trade visitors exclusive musical impressions of the company’s extensive repertoire. On 5 March at the traditional get-together of Tourismus Marketing Gesellschaft Sachsen (TMGS) soprano Olivia Delauré and baritone Marcus Günzel will be performing musical and operetta extracts on the stand of the federal State of Saxony.
In Dresden the ensemble, with its choir, ballet, soloists and orchestra, performs an extensive programme of operettas, operas and musicals. Thus, besides Johann Strauss' Die Fledermaus and Franz Lehár’s The Merry Widow (from 29 April 2016), the calendar includes Bedřich Smetana’s opera The Bartered Bride and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tale of Tsar Saltan (from 16 October 2015). Among the State Operetta Dresden’s rich and wide-ranging repertoire of musicals are highlights such as Evita, Catch Me If You Can and La Cage aux Folles (from 29 Jan. 2016).
Currently, the State Operetta Dresden is located in Dresden-Leuben in the eastern part of the city. However, a decision was taken some time ago to build a new venue on the premises of a former heating plant (Heizkraftwerk Mitte) in the heart of the city, where performances will take place as of December 2016. An appealing visitor centre, a modern auditorium seating 700 as well as catering services are bound to guarantee an enjoyable evening out at the theatre.
