Myanmar Tourism Marketing (MTM), in collaboration with the UN organisation International Trade Center (ITC), is presenting the Kayah region at ITB Berlin.
New tours and attractions in this region in the east of the country are being presented at the trade show. Beginning in 2014 the ITC and its Burmese partner have been developing suitable cultural and sustainable tourism products in Kayah, and have also been helping the indigenous population to prepare for the imminent arrival of visitors from abroad.
The aim is to establish Kayah as a new and long term destination in accordance with the new and sustainable tourism policy that has been adopted by Myanmar. This involves a commitment to ensuring a minimum impact on the immediate environment and on the existing lifestyle of the inhabitants, as well as creating a potential for sustainable development that will encourage the economic development of communities in the region. Efforts are also being made to distribute the positive effects of this development as widely and as fairly as possible.
The Kayah region is been isolated from the rest of the world for more than half a century and visitors have only recently been allowed access, which is now possible both by land and by air. This is therefore one of the last unexplored areas in southeast Asia, offering prospects for an inspiring and authentic travel experience. With its unspoiled nature, ethnic diversity and a good strategic location, Kayah and its small mountain villages offer a very promising potential for tourism, and an opportunity to gain some insights into traditional ways of life.
Kayah will be featured in a number of events at ITB Berlin.
