Tennis, biochemistry and the UN Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development in Ecuador

Quito Tourismo

From 4 to 6 March Quito Turismo will be represented at ITB Berlin. Together with journalists, travel bloggers and tour operators Maria José Garzón, the company’s marketing director, aims to communicate next year’s projects and strategy plans for 2015. This year Quito is promoting itself as a venue for large-scale international events. In January the city played host to the Ecuador Open Quito, South America’s tennis tournament that is part of the ATP World Tour 250 series. In September Quito will organise the 22nd Latin American Congress on Clinical Biochemistry and in 2016 the UN Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development, better known as Habitat III, will also be taking place.
Other important topics in 2015 include traditional cuisine, the city’s cultural heritage, ongoing development of the tourism infrastructure, in particular hotel accommodation and the parroquías, communities on the outskirts where one can enjoy outdoor activities and encounter Ecuador’s uniquely diverse flora and fauna.
In 2015 the main event in Quito will be the World Travel Awards. Last year the city won the award as the ’Best destination in South America’ for the second year in succession and has been nominated again for this year’s competition. Should Quito win again Ecuador’s capital will get the chance to compete for the ’Best destination worldwide’. Events scheduled for 2015 include trips for bloggers and the press, collaboration with tour operators, catering events and information campaigns, particularly on social networks.
