Vietnam increases the number of international guests by 29 per cent

Tourism to Vietnam is booming. “2017 was a great success, and we are represented at ITB Berlin 2018 on the largest scale yet with about 50 exhibitors,” said Vice-Chairman of the Vietnamese National Administration of Tourism, Ha Van Sieu, to journalists at the show. In the past year, the country recorded 12.9 million international visitors, an increase of 29.1 per cent. The number of Chinese tourists rose by 48.6 per cent to four million, and 2.4 million holidaymakers came from Korea, a proud 56.4 per cent more than the previous year. Among European visitors, the Russians were top with 574,000 (+32.3%), followed by the British with 284,000 (+11.3%), the French with 255,000 (+6%), and the Germans with 199,000 (+136%). To the relief of the tourism industry, visa exception was extended for trips up to 15 days for visitors from Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy, and Spain, and visas from now 46 different countries can be applied for online. The development of tourism is a priority in Phu Quoc, Van Phong, and Van Don, the three newly created economic zones.
