Holidays on board: “Like being in a secure bubble”

Latin America: A different sort of cruise destination

Mexiko-Stand, ITB Berlin 2017

Latin America is becoming an increasingly popular cruise destination, but never a high volume destination for this market. Those who have taken a ship to the Galapagos or the Amazon, who have undertaken an expedition to Chile or Argentina, traversed the Panama Canal or tied up in Havana and Cartagena are primarily interested in the destination. Encounters with the locals, history, nature in its purest form, and real life are all important, but there is no call for a fancy programme of on-board activities.

One year after the changeover to inclusive services on board 12 of the vessels of its 14-strong fleet the Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) has shown how innovative it is once again. The company’s premium all-inclusive concept offering everything at no extra cost has already met with success.

Dominican Republic: Golf and swimming with sharks

The Dominican Republic is focussing on higher quality tourism to an ever-increasing extent. This was made clear by Petra Cruz-Deyerling, European Director for the island nation's tourism authority, at ITB Berlin 2016. The names of luxury hotel chains are featured increasingly when new projects are being constructed. The Republic has received awards as the best golfing destination in the Caribbean and Latin America, and 21 blue flags can now be found on the various beaches, which are among the best in the Caribbean.

Indonesia is delighted with record tourism – and maintains ambitious targets

“In 2015 we set ourselves the target of 10 million visitors which we even managed to exceed with 10.4 million“, said a delighted Fauzi Bowo at ITB Berlin 2016. “That represents over 10 per cent growth.“ The ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia is confident that the next targets will be met: 12 million visitors by the end of 2016 and 20 million even by the end of  President Joko Widodo’s tenure in 2019.

Norwegian Escape sails from Hamburg for the first time in October 2015

The American shipping company Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) took the opportunity of a press conference at ITB Berlin 2015 in Berlin to present its preview brochure listing the highlights of its programme of cruises for the April 2016 to April 2017 season. The focus was on the company’s European routes, once again with four ships in European waters in the summer of 2016. In addition to the Norwegian Star, Norwegian Jade and Norwegian Spirit, the Norwegian Epic will also be in service.
